Why Hello! All About Heather Here.

I grew up in a small town town, Audubon Iowa. I’ve been kind of a nomad over the years, but I’m happy to be back in the Midwest. I used to be a graphic designer. Now I’m mostly a web designer who dabbles. I got a taste for advertising right out of college and I can’t get enough of it! I work at Swanson Russell (check out the site, I did the non-flash development work) in Lincoln, NE as an Interactive Designer. I work with a very talented team of webbies. The collaboration is great. I’ve really grown to be a specialized, strong web designer. To keep myself motivated I surround myself with creative friends, take art classes and attend workshops, help teach art classes, surf and surf, keep a collection of inspiration, watch a few movies outside my chick-flick interests, read fashion/design/web related blogs and books, no need to keep going...you get the point.

I am a graduate of The Creative Center, an art school in Omaha, with an Associates Degree in Graphic Design. In college I always had an interest in web, but only tested the waters. Outside of school I practiced and practiced. On the job I took the plunge and immersed myself. I have learned so much about the web from my peers, books, and years of self teaching.

I dream of becoming an interactive art director, giving web workshops out of my own studio, sewing my own clothing and accessories and so much more. It will happen for me one day. Every year, a few weeks before my birthday, I write a list of goals (Career & Personal) and steps to achieve. A few of my on-going life goals are: be creative, be positive, be nice, get inspired, inspire others, take initiative/pick up the phone & call or send an email, step on a toe or two, be sharp, develop sites faster, say no from time-to-time, worry less, read more, purchase a new vehicle, own a home with a swimming pool, start a family, travel to NY, travel to Europe, ....

Outside of work I’m very social. My schedule is always packed to the max... I even schedule myself a nap here and there to stay balanced. I spend most of my free time as a mother to an 8 year old miniature poodle and girlfriend to a 26 year old motion/3d designer. I love family, they get a lot of my time, too. I'm a big sister to a 23 year business manager in training and 18 year old college student majoring in art education. My mom is a florist/seamstress/town baker (super-mom) and my dad is an operations manager. Aside from my family, friends and being creative, I enjoy golfing, swimming, volleyball, jazzercise and reading.
